Welcome to Troop 215 in Mendon NY!
Our unit is hosted by the Mendon Church, which is on the corner of Cheese Factory Rd and Route 64 in Mendon. This is a fantastic facility with approx 20 acres of land, large meeting rooms, smaller meeting rooms, high-speed wifi, a large outdoor pavilion with picnic tables, a firepit and opportunities to camp right on the property.
Our unit is dedicated to helping young men ages 12-18 develop lifelong skills, grow as leaders and develop character according to the principles of the scout oath and law. Taking a holistic approach to youth development, our unit also encourages and supports faith-based initiatives and participation in religious emblems programs through a scout's own place of worship.
Our program is dedicated to serving busy families. We recognize that scouting is only one of many opportunities available to young people these days. We meet only twice a month on the second and fourth Mondays of the month. And we offer other optional opportunities where scouts can meet and get focused attention on specific advancement or other individual needs they might have.
We participate in:
- camping opportunities throughout the year
- skills training, citizenship development, and career exposure through the BSA Merit Badge program
- leadership training through the National Youth Leadership Training program (NYLT)
- summer camp at places such as Massawepie Scout Camp near Tupper Lake, NY and at Babcock Hovey Camp in Ovid, NY
- a wide variety of activities from ADKS hikes to scuba diving, shooting sports, skiing, rock climbing and the like.
- service projects throughout the community and region, including Scouting for Food, Foodlink, Habitat for Humanity and support for local area churches and other service organizations.
